Its inception took place almost 20 years with the aim to boost the burgeoning design community and today it has over 400 members, the Fashion Design Council of India, is a non-profit organisation. It has been tirelessly working as a bridge between buyers and designers offering both lucrative opportunities, in the domestic as well as global market that is rapidly growing and becoming increasingly inclusive.
The FDCI has also been providing a platform to a diverse segment of professionals from choreographers to models and makeup artists involved in the two prêt-a-porter fashion weeks – India Fashion Week it organises every year, spring summer and autumn winter, as well as, the coveted India Couture Week.
Recently, it has also worked with the Jakarta Fashion Week showcasing the best of design to encouraging an exchange of talent. Though its major work has been initiated with the Ministry of Textiles and under the leadership of Hon’ble Minister of Textiles Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, it hopes to multiply this drop in the ocean, by leaps and bounds.
With India’s evolving presence on the global design map that gives it, its unique aesthetic identity, the FDCI is hoping to create a distinctive change within its shores too by contributing to the Indian economy. With this motto it ushers in fresh partnerships that not only elevate design sensibilities, but also serve as a reflection of our fast changing digital times while offering design solutions.
